BULLETIN AUGUST ’24.

B

Hello everyone, long time no see! This has been by far our busiest and most successful year in the House!
Kicking off with the residency, the Ibinabo residency ran from March to June and we had 11 participants. Partnering with Iko, this brilliant initiative brought so much excellence to our roll call and we are pleased and proud to be able to run it every year. The residency has also produced an anthology that will release in October in tandem with our anniversary month!
Dearest reader, this year your fave pub will be seven years and I did not know I could feel some joy at a creation until now. In seven years, we have published over 200 writers, over 500 pieces of work, held five online stand alone classes and have now started a residency. We have also done a good number of collaborations with brands like Iko Africa and Siren to do what we love to do the most: tell stories.
Typing this filled me with so much excitement because the fruits of our labour and hanging low and harvest time is nigh. We have a few more tricks up our sleeve and we suggest you get involved to get the first taste. The experiment of surprise we took this year has seen to be more effective so it would be correct to expect a lot more surprises from us in the last quarter and even the years to come.
Our current project is the writing challenge running on twitter and Instagram so write your heats out with that and we can promise a spot in the house for the best entries. We will look into more book length collections next year as we have suspended those this year to focus on the residency and birth that anthology. Finally, while on fallow you can still be with us by watching our spoken word channel, we promise to keep you engaged, inspired and seen. See you when the leaves touch the ground, in the full circle moment that is our seventh anniversary in October.

Yours,
JACK, C.I

Pencilmarks and Scribbles Magazine was founded in 2017 by Clara Jack to be a home for African writers, asking them to come as they are and giving them room for growth. The publication aims to give back to the Nigerian Literary scene for the things it has given us.
